At Century Studios, we are often asked to adapt a client’s favorite painting into a glass piece. In 2008, we were commissioned by a couple in New York City to create a piece inspired by The Kiss, which was painted by Gustav Klimt in 1907/08. The Kiss was created during Klimt’s “golden age”, when he would incorporate gold leaf on surface of his paintings. Creating this image as a mosaic rather than a stained glass window allowed us to use iridescent lustre glasses which gave the work a shimmering, reflective surface. Small iridized jewels dot the surface of the mosaic giving the mosaic a three dimensional look.
