We have been working on the layout for a 16″ Bamboo shade. Bamboo shades are unique amongst Tiffany Studios’ lamp patterns because each long leaf is heated in a kiln and slumped to conform to the curvature of the shade. By eliminating the horizontal lines that are usually needed to fit long pieces of glass to the curve of a lamp form, the plants depicted on the shade have a realistic look.
A mold is made to match the curvature of the shade and each long leaf is heated until it gently slumps to the shape of the mold.
Once all the leaves have been slumped, we are ready to foil the shade. Wrapping the copper foil on the edges of the curved pieces takes extra patience. We will show the completed lamp in an upcoming post.
