Earlier this year, we were commissioned to create a 17″ Bat shade by an out of state client. Our client requested that the colors be more “Dark Knight” than “Halloween”, so we plunged into our library of glass, concentrated on blues and purples, and found some amazing pieces to bring the shade alive. The shade is shown on the wonderfully detailed Mushroom base.
The Bat shade features three bats flying against a starry cloudless sky. The wings of the bats overlap, and the bodies are accentuated by cast bronze overlays. This is an unusual shade design, and only four original Tiffany Studios examples have surfaced over the years, a number Century Studios exceeded a while ago.
